A thorough examination, and a number nobody asked for.
At PetDoctors blood pressure is measured at every consultation, whatever the age of the dog or cat. It is what catches the disease that gives no signs.
The consultations
Ten consultations, one rule.
“Our consultations are as complete as possible. Your pet will undergo a thorough examination.” Whatever the consultation, blood pressure is always measured.
- 01General consultation
With blood pressure measured, like every other one.
- 02Dermatology
Frequent itching, alopecia, heavy hair loss, wounds. With the clinical director, who holds a certified postgraduate qualification in veterinary dermatology (GPCert, ISVPS).
- 03Orthopaedics and traumatology
- 04Neurology and neurosurgery
- 05Gastroenterology
- 06Ophthalmology
- 07Oral health
And dental scaling, always followed by polishing.
- 08Haematology
- 09Oncology
- 10Obstetrics
If tests are needed, they are run on the clinic’s own equipment: blood, urine and fluids, with results in a few minutes.
Blood pressure
Hypertension gives no signs. It gives numbers.
Feline and canine hypertension is common, silent and, for that very reason, under-diagnosed: waiting for a symptom means arriving late.
That is why at PetDoctors the measurement is not an extra requested by owners who already suspect something. It is taken at every consultation, whatever the age of the dog or cat.
Reading the values, and what happens next, is for the vet at the consultation.
Not a new idea here
In June and July 2017 the clinic ran a screening campaign for feline and canine hypertension: measurement-only consultations, discounts on anti-hypertensive medication, a blood profile aimed at the causes and consequences, urine tests to confirm doubtful values, and a report of the measurements to take home.
Why here
The clinical director trained at the Royal Veterinary College in London, where she took part in prospective studies on feline and canine hypertension, and wrote her master’s thesis on the role of nitric oxide in the development of feline hypertension.

You don’t know yet how old his calendar is.
If your pet is under a year old, the dates for vaccines, the microchip and the first walk outside all come from one thing: the day he was born.
