Worldwide, it is estimated that there are approximately 600 million dogs living on the streets. It is a difficult and complex situation to resolve, and the vast majority of governments need public policies to help resolve this issue.
But what seems impossible for many countries has come true in Netherlands. Without any kind of sacrifice or apprehension of animals in kennels, the European country has achieved the title of First in the world without a dog living on the streets.
This feat is part of a government plan based on four pillars: Hard laws for those who abandon dogs, with fines for thousands of euros, castration campaigns and awareness, as well as high tax rates for those who buy race dogs.
With this, Holland managed to avoid breeding the dogs that lived on the streets, as well as making people prefer the adoption of the animals that had been abandoned until then. A beautiful and intelligent program that should set an example for countries around the world!
